Kitchen Cabinets for Brewster Homes

The older houses along Route 6A are rarely square, and that matters more for cabinets than for almost any other trade. Walls that bow, floors that fall an inch across a run, and ceilings that are not level all have to be dealt with at install through scribing and shimming rather than hoped away. We measure for that on site rather than working from a builder's plan, because a run of cabinets that fits on paper can still leave a visible taper against an out-of-square wall.

Brewster kitchens also tend to be closed-off by the standards of how people cook now, and a fair number of our projects here involve taking out or opening up a wall between the kitchen and dining room. That changes the cabinet plan substantially: you gain a peninsula or island, you lose a wall of uppers, and storage has to be recovered in deep drawer banks and a tall pantry cabinet. It is worth settling that question before selecting a door style, since the amount of visible cabinet face changes the visual weight of the finish you pick.

Practical note for Brewster: many properties here are on private wells and septic, and a kitchen project that relocates a sink triggers plumbing work that can touch both. We flag that at the consultation rather than at demolition.
