Brewster splits neatly into two design worlds, and we work in both. Along Route 6A you have one of the finest collections of antique sea captains' houses on Cape Cod, sitting inside the Old King's Highway Regional Historic District. Inland and toward the bay you have mid-century ranches, Sea Pines and Ocean Edge properties, and the neighborhoods off Route 137 and around Nickerson State Park.

An antique house on 6A calls for restraint. Ceilings are low, floors move, chimneys and original framing are not negotiable, and a modern flat-panel kitchen fights the building. We design these with door styles, trim profiles, and cabinet proportions that read correctly for the period, and we place appliances so that stainless steel does not dominate a room built in 1820. Panel-ready refrigerators and dishwashers, furniture-style islands, and a plan that keeps the original room proportions intact do more for these houses than any amount of new square footage.

The newer housing stock is a different exercise: bigger rooms, straighter walls, and more freedom to reorganize. Either way, exterior changes anywhere in the Old King's Highway district require committee review, so if a project involves a new window over the sink or a change to an exterior door, that timeline goes into the schedule from day one. Granite, quartz, and Corian selections coordinated with cabinet finish, hardware, backsplash, and flooring so the whole room reads as one decision.

Design Through Construction

We are a licensed contractor as well as a design office, so the plans can be handed to our own crew or to yours without a translation step.

A free visit to your home to talk through how you use the room, what is not working, and what the budget needs to be.

Measure & Survey

We take full field measurements, note where the plumbing, venting, and structure actually are, and photograph the existing conditions.

Layout & Concept

A scaled floor plan and elevations, usually with two or three options so you can compare how each one lives.

Selections

Cabinet line, door style, finish, countertop, hardware, and fixtures, chosen in the showroom against real samples.

3D Renderings

Renderings of the approved plan so you can see the finished room, then a final cabinet specification for ordering.

🍂 New for Fall 2026: Haven Sage Cabinets

Sage green has moved from accent island to full kitchen, and the Haven Sage line is now on display in our North Eastham showroom. It reads especially well in Cape houses with a lot of natural light and white trim, and it pairs cleanly with both honed quartz and warm wood floors. Worth seeing in person — greens are notoriously hard to judge from a photo.

Massachusetts now allows accessory dwelling units by right in single-family zoning districts, and Cape Cod towns are seeing steady interest. Brewster Design Questions We Get Asked

Will my Brewster kitchen project need Old King's Highway approval?

Interior work generally does not. Anything that changes the exterior appearance, including new or resized windows, exterior doors, and skylights, generally does. We identify that at the first consultation so the approval timeline is built into the schedule.

Can a modern kitchen work in an antique Route 6A house?

Yes, if the modern parts are handled carefully. Panel-ready appliances, integrated hoods, and period-correct door and trim profiles let the room function like a current kitchen without reading as one.

Do you handle bathrooms in antique homes?

We do. Fitting a proper bath into an antique usually means working within existing chases and floor structure, which is exactly where measured drawings and made-to-fit vanities earn their keep.
