Design Services for Truro Homeowners
Truro is the quietest town on the Outer Cape and the one where design discipline matters most. Houses here are generally smaller than their neighbors up and down Route 6, and the rooms are shaped by the land: hillsides above the Pamet, cottages along Beach Point, houses tucked into hollows off Castle Road and South Pamet Road, and the North Truro neighborhoods toward Highland Light.
The recurring Truro design problem is square footage. Kitchens in these houses are often genuinely small, and the answer is rarely to knock down a wall, because in Truro the exterior envelope is frequently fixed. Instead we win space inside the existing footprint: full-height pantry cabinets instead of upper-and-lower runs, drawer banks instead of doors and shelves, appliance sizes chosen to the plan rather than the plan built around a standard 36-inch range, and a bath layout that gets a real shower into a room that has never had one.
A large share of Truro land lies within the Cape Cod National Seashore, and setbacks, lot coverage, well and septic capacity, and slope all narrow the options. We would rather establish those limits at the first site visit than draw a plan that cannot be permitted. Vern Hatt holds Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License #CS62739 and Home Improvement Contractor License #177590, and does the design work personally.
