Design Services for Truro Homeowners

Truro is the quietest town on the Outer Cape and the one where design discipline matters most. Houses here are generally smaller than their neighbors up and down Route 6, and the rooms are shaped by the land: hillsides above the Pamet, cottages along Beach Point, houses tucked into hollows off Castle Road and South Pamet Road, and the North Truro neighborhoods toward Highland Light.

The recurring Truro design problem is square footage. Kitchens in these houses are often genuinely small, and the answer is rarely to knock down a wall, because in Truro the exterior envelope is frequently fixed. Instead we win space inside the existing footprint: full-height pantry cabinets instead of upper-and-lower runs, drawer banks instead of doors and shelves, appliance sizes chosen to the plan rather than the plan built around a standard 36-inch range, and a bath layout that gets a real shower into a room that has never had one.

A large share of Truro land lies within the Cape Cod National Seashore, and setbacks, lot coverage, well and septic capacity, and slope all narrow the options. We would rather establish those limits at the first site visit than draw a plan that cannot be permitted. Vern Hatt holds Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License #CS62739 and Home Improvement Contractor License #177590, and does the design work personally.

What Our Truro Design Service Includes

Kitchen Design

Scaled floor plans, elevations, and a full cabinet specification. Work triangle, storage, appliance placement, and clearances are all resolved on paper before anything is ordered.

Bathroom Design

Powder rooms through primary baths. Vanity sizing, fixture layout, tile plans, lighting, and ventilation, drawn to the room you actually have.

Cabinet Selection

U.S. Cabinet Depot, Forevermark, and Versiniti custom cabinetry on display at our North Eastham showroom, so you can open a real drawer before you commit.

3D Renderings

Photo-style renderings of the approved plan. Most Truro clients change at least one thing after seeing them, which is exactly the point.

Countertop & Finish Planning

Granite, quartz, and Corian selections coordinated with cabinet finish, hardware, backsplash, and flooring so the whole room reads as one decision.

Design Through Construction

We are a licensed contractor as well as a design office, so the plans can be handed to our own crew or to yours without a translation step.

Design Considerations for Truro Homes

Small-Footprint Planning

Truro kitchens are often under 120 square feet. Tall pantry cabinets, deep drawer banks, and counter-depth appliances buy back more usable storage than an extra run of uppers ever will.

Hillside and Sloped Sites

Houses above the Pamet and along the hills are frequently split-level or built into grade. Floor transitions and ceiling heights vary within one room, and cabinetry has to be drawn to the actual measurements.

Designing Around the View

In a Truro house the view is the point. We keep upper cabinets, hood placement, and island height from cutting the sight line to the water or the moor.

National Seashore Limits

Much of Truro sits inside the Seashore, where expanding the footprint is difficult. Nearly every project we design here works within the existing walls.

Our Design Process

1

Consultation

A free visit to your home to talk through how you use the room, what is not working, and what the budget needs to be.

2

Measure & Survey

We take full field measurements, note where the plumbing, venting, and structure actually are, and photograph the existing conditions.

3

Layout & Concept

A scaled floor plan and elevations, usually with two or three options so you can compare how each one lives.

4

Selections

Cabinet line, door style, finish, countertop, hardware, and fixtures, chosen in the showroom against real samples.

5

3D Renderings

Renderings of the approved plan so you can see the finished room, then a final cabinet specification for ordering.

New This Season

Two things worth knowing about before you start planning a Truro project this fall.

🍂 New for Fall 2026: Haven Sage Cabinets

Sage green has moved from accent island to full kitchen, and the Haven Sage line is now on display in our North Eastham showroom. It reads especially well in Cape houses with a lot of natural light and white trim, and it pairs cleanly with both honed quartz and warm wood floors. Worth seeing in person — greens are notoriously hard to judge from a photo.

🏡 Planning an ADU in Truro?

Massachusetts now allows accessory dwelling units by right in single-family zoning districts, and Cape Cod towns are seeing steady interest. Our sister company, Lower Cape ADU, handles the design and construction of the unit itself. We design and build the kitchen and bath that go in it — which, in a footprint that small, is most of the project.

Truro Design Questions We Get Asked

My Truro kitchen is tiny. Is a redesign worth it?

Often it is the project with the biggest payoff. Reworking storage, appliance sizes, and circulation inside a small footprint usually gains more usable kitchen than homeowners expect, without touching the exterior.

Can I add a bathroom to a Truro cottage?

Sometimes, but it depends on your septic system and, for many properties, on Seashore and town limits. That question gets answered first, before we draw anything.

Do you work in North Truro and Beach Point?

Yes. North Truro, Beach Point, Pond Village, and the Highland area are all regular territory for us, about twenty-five minutes from the showroom.
