Design Services for Wellfleet Homeowners
Wellfleet is ten minutes up Route 6 from our North Eastham showroom, and it may be the most architecturally varied town on the Outer Cape. We have designed kitchens and baths in the historic center near Main Street and Duck Creek, out along Chequessett Neck and Ocean View Drive, down on Lieutenant Island, and through the South Wellfleet neighborhoods off Route 6.
That variety changes the design brief from house to house. A nineteenth-century house near Wellfleet Center wants trim profiles, door styles, and proportions that read period-correct. A mid-century modern house in the Wellfleet woods, of which this town has an unusual concentration, wants flush-overlay doors, minimal hardware, and a plan that keeps sight lines open to the glass. A harbor-side cottage wants durable finishes and storage that disappears. We design to the house rather than to a house style we happen to like.
Wellfleet also presents practical constraints worth planning around: narrow lanes and steep drives that limit delivery vehicles, tight lots in the village, and a historic district in the town center where exterior changes are reviewed. We work these into the plan up front. Vern Hatt is a Massachusetts licensed and insured contractor, Construction Supervisor License #CS62739 and Home Improvement Contractor License #177590, and personally handles the design work.
