Design Services for Chatham Homeowners

Chatham sets a high bar, and we design to it. Our work here runs from the antique houses and shingle-style homes in and around Chatham Village and Shore Road, through North Chatham and Chatham Port, out along Old Harbor and toward the Monomoy side, and across the South Chatham neighborhoods.

Chatham clients tend to care about the details that get skipped elsewhere, and rightly so. Inset doors rather than overlay. Furniture-style islands with turned or tapered legs. Full-height panelling on exposed cabinet ends. Integrated appliance panels so the refrigerator does not announce itself. Cabinetry that carries a consistent reveal down a long run in a house where the walls were framed by hand. Those are all design decisions, and they get drawn and specified rather than left to the installer to sort out.

The other Chatham constant is the exterior. Many properties sit in or near the historic business district or in areas where changes visible from the street are reviewed, and a lot of houses take direct weather off the water. That affects both the approval schedule and the hardware and finish specifications. Our design office and showroom is in North Eastham, about thirty minutes up Route 6, and Vern Hatt handles Chatham design work personally. Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License #CS62739, Home Improvement Contractor License #177590.

What Our Chatham Design Service Includes

Kitchen Design

Scaled floor plans, elevations, and a full cabinet specification. Work triangle, storage, appliance placement, and clearances are all resolved on paper before anything is ordered.

Bathroom Design

Powder rooms through primary baths. Vanity sizing, fixture layout, tile plans, lighting, and ventilation, drawn to the room you actually have.

Cabinet Selection

U.S. Cabinet Depot, Forevermark, and Versiniti custom cabinetry on display at our North Eastham showroom, so you can open a real drawer before you commit.

3D Renderings

Photo-style renderings of the approved plan. Most Chatham clients change at least one thing after seeing them, which is exactly the point.

Countertop & Finish Planning

Granite, quartz, and Corian selections coordinated with cabinet finish, hardware, backsplash, and flooring so the whole room reads as one decision.

Design Through Construction

We are a licensed contractor as well as a design office, so the plans can be handed to our own crew or to yours without a translation step.

Design Considerations for Chatham Homes

Detail-Driven Cabinetry

Inset doors, consistent reveals, furniture-style islands, and finished end panels are standard expectations in Chatham. They are specified in the drawings, not improvised on site.

Historic and Design Review

Properties in and near the historic business district face review for changes visible from the street. Interior work generally is not affected, but window and door changes are, and that shapes the schedule.

Direct Coastal Exposure

Shore Road, Old Harbor, and the outer beaches take weather head on. Hardware, hinges, and finishes are specified for that exposure rather than for an inland house.

Entertaining-Scale Kitchens

Chatham kitchens frequently need a butler's pantry, a second sink, beverage refrigeration, and a plan that lets several people work without colliding. Those get drawn into the layout from the beginning.

Our Design Process

1

Consultation

A free visit to your home to talk through how you use the room, what is not working, and what the budget needs to be.

2

Measure & Survey

We take full field measurements, note where the plumbing, venting, and structure actually are, and photograph the existing conditions.

3

Layout & Concept

A scaled floor plan and elevations, usually with two or three options so you can compare how each one lives.

4

Selections

Cabinet line, door style, finish, countertop, hardware, and fixtures, chosen in the showroom against real samples.

5

3D Renderings

Renderings of the approved plan so you can see the finished room, then a final cabinet specification for ordering.

New This Season

Two things worth knowing about before you start planning a Chatham project this fall.

🍂 New for Fall 2026: Haven Sage Cabinets

Sage green has moved from accent island to full kitchen, and the Haven Sage line is now on display in our North Eastham showroom. It reads especially well in Cape houses with a lot of natural light and white trim, and it pairs cleanly with both honed quartz and warm wood floors. Worth seeing in person — greens are notoriously hard to judge from a photo.

🏡 Planning an ADU in Chatham?

Massachusetts now allows accessory dwelling units by right in single-family zoning districts, and Cape Cod towns are seeing steady interest. Our sister company, Lower Cape ADU, handles the design and construction of the unit itself. We design and build the kitchen and bath that go in it — which, in a footprint that small, is most of the project.

Chatham Design Questions We Get Asked

Do you offer inset cabinetry for Chatham homes?

Yes. Inset door construction, furniture-style detailing, and integrated appliance panels are all available through the lines we carry, and they are specified in the drawings so nothing is left to interpretation.

Is your showroom in Chatham?

No. Our design office and showroom is at 4250 State Highway in North Eastham, roughly thirty minutes north on Route 6. We come to you in Chatham for the site visit and measurements.

Will my Chatham project need historic review?

Interior kitchen and bath work generally does not. Exterior changes in the reviewed districts, including windows and doors visible from the street, generally do. We determine which applies before the design phase begins.
